Last week Blizzard announced the Burning Crusade Classic beta has officially started, and we can take our first steps back into Draenor. Starting beta now was a pleasant surprise since they only announced BCC in February during BlizzConline. I figured we wouldn’t likely see beta until April at the earliest. I’m super happy to have been wrong, though, because this gives Blizzard more time to get everything in the right place before launch. Not wanting to waste a single moment, I jumped right in and checked things out for myself.

The Burning Crusade remains an invite-only event for now but there are plenty of people who have managed to smash through what’s already available.

Players selected to participate in the beta test will receive an email invitation directing them to download the beta client directly from the Battle.net desktop app.

However, Blizzard has released patch notes for last night's update (March 29, 2021) (via Wowhead). And part of the update are not only numerous bug fixes, but also the raising of the upper level limit from level 64 to level 68. In other words: We will certainly be able to gain a lot of new knowledge from the experiences of the beta testers in the next few days.

What Changes Does TBC Bring to Classic Wow?
For those unfamiliar, Burning Crusade brought a number of robust changes to the Classic World of Warcraft gameplay experience. The most notable upgrades include:

- Raising the level cap to 70
- New and challenging raids
- Flying mounts
- Blood elves and draenei races added
- Addition of Paladins for Horde and Shamans for Alliance
- New continent and new instances

While Burning Crusade will include many of the original changes from the expansion's initial release, the new version won’t be a carbon copy. Some classes and bosses will be nerfed or improved in order to add more balance to the game than what originally existed. After all, WoW devs remember what frustrated players about the original release of Burning Crusade and can make the game an improved experience for PvP and PvE players this time around.

    Fixed a variety of issues to lighting and fog effects.
    Outlands zones are currently missing some ground foliage and detail objects.
    Fixed an issue where male Trolls had an invalid skin color option.
    Fixed an issue with Crust Burster’s spell visuals.
    Fixed an issue with FelReaver’s movement animation.

Combat
    Fixed an issue where area-of-effect damage caps were not functioning properly.
    Teleport: Moonglade is no longer missing from the level 58 Druid character templates.
    The Hunter ability The Beast Within now functions properly.
    The Paladin ability Seal of Blood now properly performs its primary damage effect.
    The Paladin ability Pure of Heart now properly increases resistance to curses and diseases.
    The Priest ability Pain Suppression now properly increases resistance to Dispel mechanics.
    Shaman totem buffs are now displayed in the buff list.
    The Warrior talent Second Wind now triggers on Immobilize effects.

So far, Blizzard has not provided a full release schedule for the Classic Burning Crusade experience.

There is no official reveal yet for a release date on WoW Classic Burning Crusade. According to Realsport101, there are rumors that a May 4th release may be possible as well as May 18th, 2021 with the string “BURNING_CRUSADE_TRANSITION_DEFAULT_CLONE_DATE May 18, 2021” leaked in the data for the Classic PTR.

According to Classic Wowhead, this could be a “placeholder date”.

When will it officially release? Nobody knows, and since it is currently in Beta, it is likely a floating target as bugs and fixes need to be integrated into the expansion.
