There are many aspects of gameplay when it comes to MMO’s and MMORPG’s. There’s the story content, the main singleplayer content, quests, sidequests, dungeons, item collection, and more. Another aspect though is PvP, or Player vs. Player. This section of game is reserved for those who just want to put their character and against other actual people instead of NPC (non-player characters) that are controlled by a computer. In fact, in MMOs, PvP is an essential part of the gameplay. Thus, it’s a major part of the update process for the game. For fans of Star Wars: The Old Republic, or SWTOR, the most recent version, 5.0, has some of the worst PVP balance the game has ever seen.
This was brought up in the community by player Vektarulz, who notes in a post that the game’s patches only seem to help one class at a time, instead of being widespread: “There has always been one class in a patch that got the best additions and one or 2 that didn’t get any since Vanilla basically one patch at a time, one class, or spec, reigned supreme as an easy mode fotm. everyone flocked to this class in droves.”
But he goes on to note that 5.0 makes it even worse in regards to balance. As several “broken” characters are still very, very, broken. This leads to an imbalance between the Empire and the Republic ones. Something that Vektarulz desperately wants fixed.
However, not all the community are behind him. Many think that the balance here isn’t perfect, but it’s not as bad as he claims. Furthermore, they give many examples as to how and why the balance isn’t so bad. This has gone on for quite some time. So which side is right? Does SWTOR have really bad PvP balance right now?
