Heirlooms have been a part of World of Warcraft since The Wrath of the Lich King expansion in 2008, these unique items have gone through some changes over the years of different expansions and again were changed to fit the new leveling system added with the release of the Shadowlands.
Heirloom Items are recommended for leveling because they will almost always represent an "ideal" item for your level. In other words, they are a huge boost to your character's power and will help you survive larger pulls and kill mobs more quickly.
What are WoW Shadowlands Heirlooms?
WoW’s Heirloom items are a special spec of item that can only be bought. They come in the form of armor, weapons, and trinkets.
Available to all classes, Heirlooms are particularly powerful as they scale with your character’s level. This makes them perfect for the leveling process. Additionally, they only need to be bought once in your WoW journey, as they’re an account-wide item.
While heirlooms will naturally become stronger as you level, there’s a natural cap to what level they scale up to. But that level can be boosted by upgrading your heirloom pieces with items that can be purchased from various vendors in the game.
Instead of each piece of gear giving a % experience bonus, Heirloom gear now has a set bonus that increases with more gear you have equipped.
In order to activate these bonuses, you’ll need to be wearing an Heirloom item in at least six of the following slots:
- Head
- Neck
- Shoulders
- Cloak
- Chest
- Legs
- Ring
The set bonus is:
- 2 Pieces: Rested experience consumed is reduced by 30%.
- 3 Pieces: Increases your out-of-combat regeneration in the outdoors, normal dungeons, and random battlegrounds.
- 5 Pieces: Gaining a level triggers Burst of Knowledge, dealing Holy damage to nearby enemies, and granting 40% main stat for 2 minutes. Defeating enemies extends this effect, up to an additional 2 minutes.
- 6 Pieces: Rested experience consumed is reduced by an additional 30%.
Where To Get Heirlooms in World of Warcraft
There are different types of Heirlooms and they are unlocked in different ways. The majority of Heirlooms (Weapons, Shoulders, Chests, Necks, and most Trinkets) can be purchased for Gold by Heirloom Curator Vendors Krom Stoutarm and Estelle Gendry.
The Alliance vendor can be found in the Hall of Explorers in Ironforge, and the Horde vendor can be found either in the Rogues' Quarter of Undercity, or on top of the Orgrimmar entrance gates.
