Riot Games has announced that its hugely popular PvP game League of Legends is coming to platforms besides PC. This new version, Wild Rift, is destined for consoles - and also for mobile devices. The studio has indicated that it is coming to Android first off: in fact, OPPO has secured an exclusive deal by which it sticks its name on this title's World Championship, thus gaining an association with the mobile version.

Essentially, it's the same League of Legends but with adjustments to meet the demands of mobile and console gamers. Chow says matches will be significantly shorter - around the 15 to 20 minute range - and there's a new twin-stick control scheme that should help gameplay feel intuitive. Likewise, the mobile and console versions of League of Legends won't include every champion and skin from the full PC version.

The game will not support crossplay with the desktop version, so don’t worry about any of the people in your solo queue games being a mobile player. It does, however, use your main League of Legends account, so you will get rewarded for being an avid League player. However, not every champion and skin will be available in this version of the game on release.

"Refreshed models, animations, game systems and more--but keeping true to the core League of Legends gameplay you already know," the developer said. "We didn't want to just port League on PC 1:1--we want to make sure Wild Rift feels like it was designed for new platforms, and use that opportunity to make a bunch of improvements to the game. While you won’t get your unlocks from League PC, you’ll get some cool rewards for the time you’ve spent in the PC version. More to come on that in 2020!"

League of Legends is not the first MOBA for mobile or consoles. Arena of Valor and Vainglory are already both popular takes on the formula on iOS and Android. And on consoles, you can play Smite.
