Although World of Warcraft has managed to stay incredibly competitive in the nearly two decades since its original launch, there are some areas where certain fans feel the MMO has fallen behind. Character customization is certainly one of those spots that has been a pain point in recent years and Blizzard implemented a lot of new options during Shadowlands to help address those concerns.
Back in February during BlizzConline, Blizzard said no additional character customizations would be coming until the game's unannounced next expansion. That will no longer be the case, with new options instead coming as part of Shadowlands' 9.1.5 patch.
The developers of MMORPG World of Warcraft: Shadowlands have taken to the official site to tease the new customization options arriving in patch 9.1.5 for the allied races that didn’t get as much attention as the rest. The new Nightborne and Lightforged Draenei options will include new hairstyles, hair colors, facial hair, skin colors, accessories, horns, tail length, tattoos, and more.
“Our characters in the game are a virtual representation of us being in Azeroth, and with more character customization options to design our characters, we get closer to them. You can, “Blizzard wrote in an official forum post announcing new options.
In addition to new customization options for Lightforged Draenei and Nightborne, 9.1.5 will also introduce other cosmetics such as:
- Ear Size options for Void Elves
- New Travel Forms for Druids
- New Soulshapes for Night Fae
- New Crittershapes to unlock: Soulshape into an adorable squirrel or other small critters. Note: Due to their tiny appearances, they are only usable in rested areas.
- Option to Soulshape and Crittershape into randomly collected appearances.
- New Toys
In addition to sharing the exciting plans for Nightborne and Lightforged Draenei, Blizzard also confirmed plans about which race will be up next for additional customization options…
“We’ll be continuing to expand our character customization in the future, with our sights set on Highmountain Tauren next.”
As Blizzard looks to add more ways for players to express themselves in-game, the WoW team has also been hard at work removing "not appropriate" elements from the game in response to a state of California lawsuit that alleges Activision Blizzard is a hotbed for harassment and discrimination against women. A Burning Crusade Classic test realm has removed the ability to use the /spit emote on other players, and the WoW team has also removed in-game references to former WoW game director Alex Afrasiabi, who was named directly in the California lawsuit.
